On a day more suited to the beach, the boys from the 18s put up an outstanding effort against Sydney University, in the first game of the competition.
The Rage boys started slowly as they worked out combinations, with only 11 boys available to play in this game and two new additions to the team this week.
For most of the first half Sydney University pressured the Rage goal but the defence remained solid until the 33rd minute when Sydney Uni. headed in a deflected shot for the first goal.
Down 1-0 at half time, the Rage boys came out in the second half and attacked solidly. From the opening minutes there were a number of shots on goal with a several going close.
Finally in the 15th minute Rage got the goal they deserved. Following good lead up work from Ceysun, Ali put away the Rage’s first goal of the competition with a well taken shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Rage continued to attack and a second goal seemed imminent, however a lack of concentration allowed Sydney Uni. to grab a second goal 5 minutes later.
The boys continued to attack the Sydney Uni. goal, but were unable to find the equaliser. It was a great effort from all the boys considering the limited preparation and stepping up of the two newest players in the team. A big thank you to; Steven, Matthew and Eddie from the 16s squad who came on in the second half.
