6 March Granville Rage vs Camden Tigers - Garside Park

Match report:

Result 1 – 1

After having a great game in Canberra the guys had a nervous confidence leading into the game. The goalie leaving his boots at home probably said it all. The guys were happy to see Nathan back among the mix and are looking forward to Charlie getting onto the turf.

Under 16s Under 16s Under 16s Under 16s Under 16s

The team played well. Joel at midfield looked the goods. Great header goal. 4:3:3 looks the goods for you guys. The defensive line of Matt, Frank, Trent, James and Damo kept matters under control. 1-1 result after Camden getting a penalty.

Fella’s the main point in the report. Don’t get caught up in nonsense play and behaviour. You’re a team with talent. If other teams play nonsense let them. Look and & turn away, don’t react.

Your a developing squad with a lot of potential. The Coach (Serdar) and Asst Coach (Woody) can see that. Show us what you can do. Make you club, your parents but most importantly yourselves proud.

13 March Granville Rage vs St George - Garside Park

Match report:

2-1 Loss

A game for the boys to build on going in to Rd 1 of the comp next week. The side has settled together well with the guys developing a good understanding of each others play. Some good combinations are developing though Serdar has seen a few areas that still need some work. An impressive goal by Nathan, displaying excellent touch up front. The defensive line was given a workout.

Fixtures and Match reports - Round 1

20 March 1:15pm Granville Rage vs Sydney Uni - Garside Park

Match report:

1-0 Win

Strong first round win guys. What an impressive game by captain Demo. He was in everything. First half was full of opportunities for our guys resulting in a great goal for Stephen. Very good to see a number of players getting the team to refocus and calm down after the excitement of the goal.

Under 16s Under 16s

Second half Uni initially was putting a bit of pressure of you guys, but you soon got that under control. Tyler some good saves. Bilal was strong up front, Joel again very good in the middle. The good things coming out of the game were the defensive line of Matt, Frank, Trent, James and Demo continue to grow in strength. It is hard line to get through.

The development of the attacks and the maintenance of the pressure on the opposition was impressive even in the heat. You showed you can withstand pressure and then give it back. Keep it up.

27 March 1:15pm Central Coast vs Granville Rage - Pluim Park

Match report:

0 - 3 Loss

After a very good first round win the guys travelled to the Central Coast with clear messages from Serdar what to expect. But….down 0-3 at half time the coach’s despair and players frustration was obvious. Three pretty soft goals in the first half had you guys looking scratchy. First goal by them was a rushed but not skillful play as Serdar told you expect. 2nd Goal very soft allowed by all.

Under 16s Under 16s

3rd goal occurred after a good corner punch out by Tyler but we watched as the opposition took their time to pick a spot where to kick into the nets while standing in the 8 yard box. The delight of the first half was the excellent cross from Sinard to Nathan opening up a chance. 2nd half pretty different. More keenness in attack, more thought in defence. Main thing you played their game back at them and kept he ball in their half. Result..you kept them scoreless but unfortunately you guys weren’t able to score some back. The issue though falls back on you guys.

A lot of you guys have stepped up this year to Super Youth. That means last weeks match means for nought. You have to keep that commitment, focus and energy in place week in week out. Otherwise you will get more results like today.

Importantly the nonsense towards the end of the game has to be taken out of your game as should the nonsense in reacting to the niggle at half time. You’re a good squad…. Lessons learnt…. Next week.

3 April 1:15pm Dulwich Hill vs Granville Rage - Arlington Oval

Match report:

1-0 Win

Missing a few players and after last weeks loss the guys dug deep. Some scratchy referee decisions didn’t help but better than what the 15’s had to suffer.

Under 16s Under 16s Under 16s

First half torrid stuff but the thing that stood out was the commitment. The effort and focus was there also. Tyler stood out today with some excellent saves in the goal mouth but he was keenly supported again by Matt, Trent, Demo and James. Great defensive line adding Frank who is serving his penance for the white flash. Matt with his break through plays, Trent’s headers, Demo and James whose left foot kicks into the opposition midfield and goal mouth placements were a treat to watch. Dean and Joel in midfield were ran off their feet trying to create the break for the guys up front. Sinard a strong game. Some of our play became a bit of kick and chase matching theirs rather than maintaining a structured play, looking for the options, but sometimes the moment takes over.

Second half saw some great breaks up front by Chad and Nathan with eventually Nathan scoring the goal that created a frenzy for the guys. They settled down nicely from the excitement and returned to focus. 2nd win. New game next week.

10 April 1:15pm Granville Rage vs Mounties Wanderers - Garside Park

Match report:

Very intense game, with the guys putting in heaps of effort under the added pressure of some questionable refereeing approaches.

Under 16s Under 16s Under 16s

Sinard in a tense tussle and placed under additional pressure with his opposite with the ref only seeing one player in the two player tussle. Likewise a number of frees to the opposition for challenges by our guys when a number of far worse challenges on our boys by the opposition going unchecked. From the match reporter's perspective this sort of refereeing is what gets some matches out of hand. Having said that the boys put it to Wanderers in the first half with plenty of attack and exposed the vulnerability of the Wanderers defense line.

A number of chances for us in the first half which just didn’t come off. Only needed one of them and am sure the result on the day would have been different. 0-0 Half time.

Guys started to wane half through the 2nd half. From the exertion of the game, pressure from the refereeing decisions and frustration. Their forwards took advantage of this in our mid and piled on the pressure through there. Their first goal was a cracker..it had to be to get past our defence line. Great save effort by Tyler who got a hand to the ball but just didn’t deflect it enough.

Their 2nd goal was a one on one with Tyler. Tyler came off the line but suffered a nutty. Chad continued his good form from last week putting the pressure on. Demo again a real Captains knock..in everything. He’s a great leader. Joel put in a great dig in mid as did Matt before being moved out to the wing. 4 games, 2 win 2 losses a balanced card. Next week the chance put the balance back your way.

17 April 1:15pm Schofield Scorpions vs Granville Rage - CSI Sportsground

Match report:

0-1 Loss

On talent a game for the boys to take but it was a different result. A short field, not the best grass cover with an opposition who was hungry. A penalty to the opposition 10 minutes into time, down 0-1. That remained the score for the remainder of the game.

The opposition played the game up the middle putting the pressure on the guys at every turn. We made the mistake of playing it straight back up the middle to them which seemed to assist the opposition. They continually pressured our midfield, which put pressure on our defence and left little opportunity for the guys up front. The game was one to slow the pace, move the ball around, and on a small pitch play more square balls and wide to tire out the opposition. However the opposition played the game putting themselves on the line. Lessons learnt you know what to look for next time.  Demo as usual put in his all. Sinan tried and tried. Joel White made a difference when on the pitch. Frank & Trent great combination in centre back.

Next week a new game. Back to focus..the next game is yours to take.

24 April 1:15pm Granville Rage vs Macarthur Rams - Garside Park

Match report:

0-1 Loss

A game where Tyler our goalie was given a fitness test. He wont need training on Monday!!! Macarthur got one into our nets early in the first half. A ball difficult to stop at the best of times and as in football it only takes one goal and it can be deadly.

That is how the scored stayed. The boys didn’t let in another but our lines were stretched on a number of occasions, though the defensive line and Tyler were able to hold them out. We were unlucky not to capitalise and return the favour on a number of occasions, Joel with an opportunity in the first half and Manut one in the second. Opportunities lost. Good to see Manut back from injury. Manut and Bilal made impact up front when on the field. Demo, well Demo put in his all as usual. James a strong game. Trent & Frank the usual. Bilal cut and curved, put on the pressure up front. Serdar & Woody, calm and resilient on the sideline.

1 May 1:15pm Blacktown Spartans vs Granville Rage - Francis Park

Match report:

0-1 Loss

Another game where Tyler our goalie was again given a fitness test. Two injuries from the game Sinan (leg) & Tyler (hand).

The boys started off exceptionally well with Bilal at striker and Manut in mid having a real impact with some impressive play across and to the lines. In the first half our guys were continually stretching the Blacktown defence and putting on heaps of pressure. Our guys had control of the game for extensive periods with Bilal unlucky not to be the first to put one away after about 10 mins.

Matt started to settle in mid and the combination of he and Manut was looking good with the ball getting some good movement. Again a number of opportunities throughout the game and we were unlucky/unable to put them away. Sinan was putting forward some nice balls until the injury struck and he needed help off.

Our momentum and game play dropped off in the 2nd half allowing Blacktown to gain a late control of the game. The Blacktown goal was a scrambled effort and at the time a little against the run of play from a counterattack. As with last week and as in football it only takes one goal and it can be deadly. Parents impressed with the boys efforts.

8 May 1:15pm Granville Rage vs Spirit FC - Garside Park

Match report:

2-1 Win

A game against the competition leaders coming on the back of a couple of losing games where the guys had come away a little dispirited. This is the game where they told the competition that they were a team to watch. The guys started the game with real intensity and desire. And it stayed that way.

In the first half the boys were continually putting pressure on Spirit. Spirit gone a ball in the net against the run of play. 0-1. The way the guys responded to that first goal said different was happening. No heads down, just quickly got the ball for a quick restart. Spirit knew it was game on. 2nd half same grit. The boys were showing their mettle. Manut took a shot from within the penalty box. Goalie dropped the ball and there was Chad to clean up. 1-1. Excitement.

The boys started again, dug deep. Nathan has a shot, goalie fumbles, there was Steven to clean up 2-1. A lot of excitement..understatement. Game restarted and the guys kept their composure, giving no opportunities to Spirit. A great win. Chad shone on the day really putting the pressure on the Spirit defence and was probably the MVP but others really close.

Steven and Chad showed the impact on putting on the pressure up front and forcing the errors. Demo a great game on the wing. The defence of James, Trent and Frank did a great job of shutting down the tall Spirit striker who is the leading goal scorer in the comp. A great team effort. Next week Bathurst ..keep it up fella’s.

15 May 1:15pm Western Panthers vs Granville Rage - Alec Lamberton Fld

Match report:

1-2 Loss

Coming off a good win last week unfortunately the boys went into this weeks game winning it before it was over and paid the price. Bathurst on paper a team that scores a lot but lets in just as many. The defence in the first half kept the Bathurst through ball game under control, which was an achievement as the Bathurst forwards were quick. Some scrambled play saw the boys go 1-0 up in the first half.

Unfortunately injuries then started to take over. Firstly Manut (hip), than Demo (nose) and then Eddy (gonads). While the boys went in at half time in front on the scoreline, over confidence and injuries seemed to change the tide of the game. 2nd half was full of frustration.

Opportunities coming and going. Then heads tended to go down for Rage, but Bathurst kept plugging away. Bathurst played nothing fancy, just kept up their through ball game. Rage then watched the ball rather than play to control it. Firstly Bathurst got the equalizer. The winning goal for them just seemed to beckon to happen at any time, and finally it did with about 10 mins to go. The boys hopefully learn’t that you cant win a game while watching the other team play with the ball. Performances… the name that stood out was Chad. In there trying, he put the pressure on their defence at every turn. Clever turns with the ball and some fine tuned lay offs. Chad rewarded our defensive line for the effort they put in again and his performances are now becoming very consistent, something all the boys should follow. Next week PCYC..A new game.

22 May 1:15pm Granville Rage vs PCYC Eagles - Garside Park

Match report:

0-4 Loss

A tough one to write. The guys went into the game struggling even before the whistle had been blown. Focus, motivation weren’t there and the resulting scoreline reflected it. The opposition certainly was not beyond the guys but they made PCYC look better than what they are. A team can be allowed to pass and be made to look good, that is what the guys let PCYC do with the cocky attitude of their coach should stay in the guys mind for the next round. The guys were flat, lacked cohesion and like so often this year it was either desperation forward play trying to attack or a dire defence line trying to keep the opposition out. Nothing in between. That can happen only for so many games before something wilts. Unfortunately it all came to pass against PCYC. Serdars long talk after the game was not a surprise. Rage a team with talent beating the higher comp teams but losing to the weaker ones. Chad stood out again having a go up front. Joel looked good when given a run. The defence of James, Trent, Frank and Demo and goalie Tyler tried and tried as usual but they could only go so far. 11 players on the field have to play against the 11 opposition players. Every one has a role. Next round for PCYC, next week the Nthn Tigers. Pick up..start again.
