6 March Granville Rage vs Camden Tigers - Garside Park
Match report:Result 1 – 1
Solid game for Granville against a well committed and strong Camden side.
First half saw most of the match played in Camdens half with Rage having most of the of the possession and ground advantage. There were at least 5 shots on goal, but good defence and excellent goal keeping by the Camden side kept the score to 0-0 at half time.
In the 2nd half was much the same as the first half. A goal scored by Archie early in the second half was disallowed by the Referee after calling the goal offside when he was clearly on side, and unfortunately there was no linesman. Camden also had their chances early in the second half but great and solid defence by the Rage backline.
With around 4 minutes to go Camden scored a goal after a slight error in our defence to lead 1 nil. A minute later Rage as they have shown throughout the pre-season trials did not give up, with some impressive midfield play saw a nice ball played to Ben who scored the equalizer. Well done Rage.
Outstanding performances by Joel, Lucas and Jimmy.
13 March Granville Rage vs St George - Garside Park
Match report:Result 2 – 1
Good win today by our 15s. First half started with two early goals, the first goal coming after 11 minutes from a nice ball from the mid-field to Striker Ben who took a shot that deflected off a St George player for an own goal. Two minutes later our boys were in range for another shot on goal and a hand ball by a St George player saw a penalty awarded to us. Mitchell was given the duty to take the shot which was scored to go to a 2 nil lead.
The second half did not get off to a good start. St George was given a free kick early in the half after the linesman ruled that goalkeeper Michael had picked up the ball outside the circle. St George scored off the free kick to take the score to 2-1. Again throughout the second half our boys were very solid in defence and had several shots on goal but good goalkeeping kept the score at 2-1.
Good performances by Mitchell, Archie and Southey.
Good results and a great finish to our pre season trials, looks like the team is in good shape for the start of the season.
Fixtures and Match reports - Premiership
20 March 11:40am Granville Rage vs Sydney Uni - Garside Park
Match report:Result 2-5 Loss Unfortunately it was a bad start to the competition with a 5-2 loss.
Our boys seem to lose focus after only 5 minutes when an unfortunate ball hit one of our players hand in the penalty area. The penalty was taken by Sydney Uni to lead 1 nil after 5 minutes of play. Sydney Uni then went and scored 2 quick goals to lead 3 nil after 15 minutes of play.
There were patches of good play from our boys and our first goal came just before half time when a free kick taken by Andrew found Didi in open space to score. Half time and the score was 3-1.
Second half started and our boys knew there was a mountain to climb to try and save the game, but an early goal by Sydney Uni made the score 4-1.
Minutes later some good play came from our backline. Yaw sent a nice ball to Ben who had a shot from out wide to score the teams second goal after 5 minutes in second half 4-2.
From there our boys tried everything to get more goals but couldn't break through and with minutes left to play Sydney Uni scored to lead and win the game 5-2.
27 March 11:40am Central Coast vs Granville Rage - Pluim Park
Match reportResult: 2-1 win
Another warm day, this time up north to the Central Coast. After being a little disappointed last week, we started the game determined to make amends, and from the outset the defence was working a lot better than last week.
Fifteen minutes into the first half, a poor tackle on our left defender, Jimmy, saw him forced from the field. Despite the changes this brought to our back line, the defence stood strong. Both sides had their chances early, but Rage was first to find the mark when Ben's left foot strike found the back of the net in the 30th minute, and the teams turned for the half-time break at Granville 1 Central Coast 0.
The second half started with Rage on the attack, and Ben had a near miss on goal with Rage continuing to show the upper hand. At the 15 minute mark of the half a ball from the right side of the 18 yard box fell nicely for Lucas to find the back of the net and take the score to Granville 2 Central Coast 0.
This appeared to lift Central Coast and they began to attack with more purpose. Eventually an attacking run through the middle of the Granville defense saw our 'keeper drawn from his line, and despite a valiant effort from Yowe to try to clear Central Coast were on the board. Late pressure continued from Central Coast however the greatly improved Granville side kept the scoreline at 2-1 for a solid win.
Well done boy's - a much improved game.
3 April 11:40am Dulwich Hill vs Granville Rage - Arlington Oval
Match report:Result 2-1 Loss
A 2-1 loss, but an outstanding high quality game against last years Premiers. Dulwich Hill scored a goal midway through the first half and lead 1 nil at half time. Apart from the goal the first half was evenly matched.
In the Second half our boys came out firing. They took control of the game and 15 minutes into the second half they scored the equalizer after some clever ball control by Joel sending a perfect pass to Ben, and as in previous weeks he scored a nice goal from out wide with his left foot. Again we were in control and had plenty of possession, but some ordinary refereeing decisions going against us denied several other chances.
With 10 minutes to go Dulwich Hill scored from a cross to take the lead 2-1. From there our boys tried their hearts out but could not come up with equalizer. The game finished at 2-1. Unfortunately no points, but an outstanding game from every player.
Well Done.
10 April 11:40am Granville Rage vs Mounties Wanderers - Garside Park
Match report:Result 2-0 Win
Another warm day, this time at our home ground. Our boys looked the better side from the kickoff, with solid team play and much-needed communication over the park. Joel came on as a replacement in the15th minute of the game, and with his first touch from a great cross from Archie he put the ball in the back of the Wanderers net. Our boys dominated possession and looked the stronger throughout the half.
Half Time Wanderers 0 - Granville Rage -1
The second half started and the intensity of the match appeared to drop. Granville continued to defend strongly, though, and moved the ball out of danger whenever Wanderers challenged. Ten minutes into the second half Ben scored, and the game looked well in control.
Wanderers refused to give in, and continued to attack. A mix-up at the back saw Michael forced to make a reflex save, but this was as close as Wanderers would get, and we kept them scoreless. Positive play by all Granville players and a determined attack on goal saw us come away with a 2-0 win.
Many more to come!
17 April 11:40am Schofield Scorpions vs Granville Rage - CSI Sportsground
Match report:Result 3-0 Win
The warm weather continues, and with it great results. Our boys were the better side on the day, making it two wins in a row.
Granville Rage started well with many attacking raids at Schofields goal. The only thing stopping us from turning these raids into goals was the linesman!
At the tenth minute of the 1st half a clearance kick from the Granville Rage keeper Michael saw the ball beautifully placed for Ben to break from the Schofields defense line - this time without an offside flag from the linesman.
One-on-one with the keeper and a perfect chip saw Ben place the ball in the back of the net from the left side.
Schofields did not have an answer for our strikers, and Archie and Ben continued attacking raids towards on goal throughout the half. Our boys defended well, keeping Schofields away from our goal, and leaving Michael with an easier days work at the office than in previous weeks.
At the twenty minute mark Rage had a change up front with Archie leaving the field and Bordo coming on, with Ben attacking from the right side.
Another through ball saw Ben again chip the keeper, this time from the right side of the field with the same result.
The half-time score was Schofields 0 - Granville Rage -2
The heat was again taking its toll and the pace of the game in the second half dropped away. Granville continued to defend strongly, with injuries to a couple of Schofields players interrupting play.
Mid-way through the half saw a virtual replay from the week before. Archie made an incisive run down the left side of the field, passing across goal to Joel to slot the ball into the net with his first touch having just come onto the field.
Strong defending from Granville’s midfield & backline kept Schofields scoreless throughout.
The final score: Schofields 0 – 3 Granville Rage
Well done boys – you’ve now edged into the top 5.
24 April 11:40am Granville Rage vs Macarthur Rams - Garside Park
Match report:Result 1-0 Win
After coming off wins last week, both Granville & Macarthur were ready for a very competitive contest. Granville started the better with a lot of early possession which set up a few scoring chances. Joel with an angled strike had the opposition keeper at full stretch with the ball just clearing the crossbar, and both Ben and Archie had the defence scrambling in the box. However there were no early rewards for Granville.
After 15 minutes of dominance by Granville, Macarthur started to get into gear. Their physical style and eagerness to cut off ball supply from Granville saw the game turn. For the remainder of the half the Granville lads struggled to settle into their natural game, passes weren’t finding the mark and constant harassment from Macarthur had the home team under a lot of pressure. Macarthur also had a few attacking raids and fortunately for Granville a Macarthur goal 5 minutes from half time was ruled offside by the officials. For the Granville spectators half time couldn’t come soon enough. The statistics for the first half were very even with both teams having 3 or 4 shots on goal; however with free kicks 9-5 against Granville it highlighted the desperation they were showing to get possession of the ball..
When Granville came out for the second half it was back to business. The lads were showing more composure with the ball and passes were coming together. The game was still very tight, both sides were not giving up easily and very few opportunities were available. This was starting to frustrate both teams which were indicative of the number of free kicks, 20 in all. However it was the lads from Granville who were winning the mind games. After 15 minutes of the half, one of the Macarthur strikers collected his second yellow card and they were reduced to 10 men. .
Five minutes later Granville struck gold. After good lead up work a free kick was awarded to Granville a few metres outside the box. After taking the free kick the ball rebounded back to Didi who launched a missile at the Macarthur goals, the ball found the top right hand corner of the net. The keeper had no chance, Granville were very relieved..
Macarthur with 10 men came back strongly, however they could not break down the defence. Granville were scrambling for everything, they knew how hard it was to break through the Macarthur team to get the lead and they weren’t going to give it up easily..
Well done lads. There must have been some great words of inspiration from the coach at half time.

1 May 11:40am Blacktown Spartans vs Granville Rage - Francis Park
Match report:Result 1-0 Win
The clouds cleared and the day was set for perfect playing conditions at Francis Park. Granville coming into the match with a string of wins behind them were keen to keep the momentum going, and that was showing in the tempo at the start of the game.
Granville opened the game with a lot of pressure on the Blacktown defence. Good interchange of passing between Bordo & Joel into the 18 yard box had the defence on the back foot and a shot by Momo just 4 minutes into the game had the keeper stranded but unfortunately caught the crossbar. The early pressure wasn’t rewarded with any goals and Granville started to drop off their game. Blacktown now getting some more of the possession was beginning to stretch Granville. Raids down the left & right side were repelled by the Granville defence, but at the 10th minute of the half Blacktown worked their way through and scored the first goal of the game.
To Granville’s credit the lads picked up the tempo again and applied some pressure to Blacktown. This was rewarded with an equalising goal, when Didi, showing some nice skill in the box, skipped around the defender & slotted the ball from close range past the Blacktown keeper.
Then again Granville dropped off their game and for the remainder of the half allowed Blacktown to create some opportunities. The Granville defence was under pressure and scrambling to keep the opposition at bay.
Another motivational speech by the coach at half time had the Rage lads fired up for the second half. They came out keen, pressured Blacktown and put on some good attacking raids. An early cross from Momo had Joel stretching for a header, unfortunately the human neck just doesn’t stretch far enough and he was unable to get a clean touch on the ball.
A free kick 10 minutes into the half went across the goal with no one on the far post to put it away and a snapshot by Ben a couple of minutes later went over the crossbar. Finally after prolonged pressure the Blacktown defence cracked. At the 15 minute mark, a run by Arche into the penalty area had the defence scrambling, a push in the back on Arche and Granville were awarded a penalty which Mitchell calmly put away.
Granville were now in front and on top, however again they went cold and gave Blacktown room & possession. For the remainder of the game Granville were back to the hot & cold style. The backs were again asked to do a lot and to their credit they held Blacktown out.
At times it wasn’t pretty but they got the result. The spectators will be on medication for another week. Thanks lads.
8 May 11:40am Granville Rage vs Spirit FC - Garside Park
Match report:Result 1-0 Win
Spirit FC travelled to Garside Park for a top the table clash both sides were expecting a tough encounter under a beautiful clear sky. Rage started strong and a 25m free kick in the 6th minute taken by Didi just curving enough to go to the side of the goals. In the 20th minute some good work by Borto looking for his first goal just shave the crossbar.
The Rage boys dominated the first 20mins but then Spirit FC kicked up notch and finished the second half with all guns blazing. Both sides went into the sheds scoreless. The rager reporters had exclusive rights in the home dressing room and coach LEB or Anthony to some did not have much to tell his troops but to continue to hold their shape. This is exactly what his troopers did there backline defence was described as the Great Wall of China by many of the screaming fans can’t go through it can’t go over it.
In the 41st minute some good lead up work by Borto and Joel created a opportunity but the Spirit defence was up to the challenge. In the 45TH min Spirit striker had a good strike on goal only to be difused by the ever reliable goalie Michael. This game was building into a superb finale . Finally the Spirit defence cracked in the 66th minute when Rage leading goal scorer Ben found the back of the net much to his teammates and home crowds joy.
When we asked the coach and his staff about the win he told our reporters this was his teams best win. FINAL SCORE GRANVILLE RAGE 1 SPIRIT FC 0
15 May 11:40am Western Panthers vs Granville Rage - Alec Lamberton Fld
Match report:Result 1-0 Win
Granville Rage were on the road facing an uphill battle against Bathurst Panthers. Conditions were very good considering the cold frost the boys woke up to. These boys have not had a win or draw against the mite of the Panthers at their home ground. Before you could have a sip of your hot coffee Borto was on the end of some good lead up work from Ben and Mo to score his first goal of the season in the first minute of play. Bathurst had a few corners and always looked like scoring but somehow the rage boys defused their attempts. Midway through the first half Rage received a free kick which found the head of a flying Didi only for the home keeper to pull off a freakish save. Both teams had their chances during the first but the Rage boys went into the sheds at halftime 1 nil up. The second half was a scrappy affair with the game on the line for both teams. Rage held onto their first half lead to win 1 -0. The coaching staff were not real happy with the performance but were pleased to come away with the 3 points. Rage play PCYC Eagles next Saturday at Garside park for a top of the table clash this is the match of the round so a good crowd is expected.
22 May 11:40am Granville Rage vs PCYC Eagles - Garside Park
Match report:Result 0-0 Draw
A top of the table clash with both sides on the even points leading the comp saw a 0-0 result.
First half was played from end to end, with the referee who forgot to bring his whistle with him saw a least 2 fouls that should of went our way within close range of the Parramatta goals. There was a couple of other attempts at goal but none closer than Didis shot 5 minutes from half time that hit the keepers finger tips to slow it down just before the goal line.
2nd half and once again nothing changed in this half with the game played from end to end and no team was giving anything away and it was going to be a mistake from one team before a goal was going to be scored. Even our left defender Yaw who replaced the injured Jimmy made a long run from his own half to get into the box and narrowly missing a shot.
Coach “Leb” said that it wasn’t our best game but was proud of the solid performance once again from the defenders, and to come away with a draw against a quality side was enough to keep him satisfied with the result.
Besides Jimmy with a slight hip strain there were no other injuries to report. With Joel back from injury this week coach Leb is back with a full squad of players just in time for our double header this week with a midweek game against NSWIS

Result 0-0
After a few weeks of intermittent football and a few up and down results, the 15s were keen to get 3 points under their belt. However Scholfields coming into the game with some good form weren’t going to let it be that easy and for the first 15-20 minutes of the game, they were encamped in the Granville half, asking a lot of questions of the Granville defence. The lads from Granville while not finding the pressure too intimidating just could not find the right moves to get on the front foot.
It was at the 25 minute mark that Granville finally started to make inroads into the Schofields penalty area. A run by Arche had the goalkeeper coming off his line and grabbing the ball from his feet. This was soon followed with Mitchell passing to Ben who shot over the crossbar. Then a couple of minutes from half time Didi was just unable to get clean contact with a free kick from Andrew into the box.
The teams went to the half time break scoreless, but if Granville played the second half the way they finished the first it was looking promising.
Just minutes into the 2nd half a interchange of passing down the left hand side had the Schofields defence stretched, unfortunately the shot hit the side netting. More moves down the left continued to worry the opposition. At the 13 minute mark the ball went to Arche in the penalty area, after heading toward goal in knocked the ball across towards an unmarked Didi, unfortunately a lunging defender stuck his foot out and was able to deflect it away from danger. Schofield tried to exert some pressure of their own, but this was short lived, the Granville lads sensed they were on top and again raided the opposition half. The Schofields defence was stacked and they were hanging on grimly. On the 20 minute mark Borto had his shot saved by the keeper and 30 minutes into the half Andrew found himself with possession in the box, unfortunately the shot went over the bar. There is a rumour going round Garside that his dad Sam will run a lap of the park in his birthday suit if either of his sons score. Maybe Andrew was saving us from that fate.
Granville’s last chance came just before the full time whistle, a free kick from Ben outside the box couldn’t find the mark and after all their efforts Granville had to be content with the draw.
Well done lads, you gave it a good shot, but the stacked defence was hard to break.
